Tramlines 2019

The first of line up for Hillsborough Park has been revealed. Not quite as exciting as Stereophonics and Noel last year, but that may mean get to experience some of the Tramline attractions in city centre this year . The days everyone is playing has not yet been announced but, it is on 19-21st July. Manic Street Preachers and Happy Monday’s stand out for me. The below link to NME lists more.

The park was transformed.

Predictably I still adore Noel Gallagher.

Loved seeing Shed7 and Stereophonics again.

I went in the park each of three days of festival as evidenced by getting a bag check tag for every day.

Sure the fringe would have also been enjoyable, but the only bit of Fringe that got to was seeing PJ One Drop on Saturday at the Horse and Jockey in Hillsborough.

As never left Hillsborough the tram strike was not a problem.

Ate tempura prawns 🦐 and chips 🍟 in the Park. Saturday in the park had Frenchie Poutine; from Gravy train. Sunday night an excellent curry in newly reopened, under new management Indian in Hillsborough behind Hillsborough Park tram stop.

Plenty of sun but, not intense heat of recent weeks which may not have been pleasant to sit in for extended periods.

All, in all a fantastic weekend in Hillsborough.

Sheffield Tramlines and trams

Tramlines gets it’s name from the city’s teams. This year Tramline’s main stages are further from the city centre than they have ever been, in Hillsborough Park. Teams run across the front of the park. At one corner of the park there is Hillsborough park tram stop and at the other corner Leppings Lane tram stop. Teams provide a smooth journey. They are reliable. They are more direct than the buses and you can get from Hillsborough Park to the city centre in 15 – 20minutes. The fringe stages in Devonshire green and Peace gardens are just a couple of minutes walk from a tram stop. There is a tram stop at the train station for anyone arriving by train. Other fringe venues are the pubs along West Street, which the tram runs down.

It is a great weekend to showcase Sheffield’s trams. On the other hand taking industrial action (striking) this weekend really highlights the cause. There is due to be strikes on all 3 days of the festival by members of the Unite union who would like pay to rise by 50p per hour. Currently the offer is 26p per hour raise.

As it is just one union involved with strikes them between 7am and 7pm on the three days there will be a limited service serving some stops at intervals of about 30minutes rather than the usual 5-10minutes. Often to accommodate special events like big concerts and at Sheffield arena, extra teams are provided and the workers manage to efficiently get thousands of people from the arena back to the city centre, using well established processes. Instead at the end of Tramlines anyone wanting to get back to the city centre has to find a taxi or face the unknown quantity of buses laid on by the council. The journey back to the city centre will cost £3 and no passes will be accepted so everyone adult or child has to pay £3. Bearing in mind normally, a day tram saver costs £4 and for that you can if you want spend all day on trams.

Luckily on the Saturday, to be sure of seeing Noel Gallagher perform, I do not intend to leave Hillsborough and I’m in walking distance of home at the end of the night.

Tramlines Latest

Hillsborough Park continues to be prepared.

The Exposed programme which lists fringe events, is now out. It is very comprehensive featuring a range of venues and one section listed by artist name and another section each pub by day. However, still there is more pubs offering music than, in the programme.

I picked a paper copy up from Rocco but, there should be copies in other pubs and cafes. It is also available online:

Fringe prog

I believe there is still a few tickets left for the paid part of the festival which has s break stages. So basically, there is a lot of music everywhere in Sheffield if the coming weekend. I feel spoilt for choice and there are times, I could do with being in two places at once over the weekend.

Here are some other listings, that I have seen:

At the Beehive

At the Mulberry

Where is home?

HOME is the prompt of this week’s 6 word story.

http://wonderwall360.blog/2018/07/14/6wordstory-challenge-14jul-2018-19jul-2018/

I consider myself to have two homes. There is my home where I live in Sheffield. Then there is Home where I grew up. I consider the town of Scunthorpe to be home. I follow Scunthorpe United in too ball. Specifically my parent’s home is mine. They live in house I grew up in so it is still my home rather than myself being a guest.

Today I started in Sheffield, with a walk in Hillsborough Park where there is Tramlines next weekend.

I then got a train to Scunthorpe. The train station midway between my two homes is Doncaster.

Tramlines Fringe 2018: Venue Guide And Top Picks — Pink Wafer

Tramlines is becoming like Edinburgh festivals with lots of branches. Yellow arches having it’s own festival which charging for. There is music at Crucible corner, which according to this, is not classed as Tramlines.

With so much live music on offer at the Tramlines Fringe, it can be hard to know where to start. Here’s Pink Wafer’s rundown of Tramlines Fringe venues, along with our top picks for the weekend.

Tramlines Festival – Signature IPA and Henderson’s Relish! — York Calling

In celebration of its Sheffield roots and to mark 10 years as the one of the UK’s biggest inner-city music festival, Tramlines has announced two collaborations with fellow Sheffield independents that are set to make the mouth water. In association with Abbeydale Brewery – one of Sheffield’s oldest family run-breweries – Tramlines has launched an […]

Sending Post

A letter had been sent to my nephew’s parents asking them to try and get relatives from around the UK to send post to his school, to help them learn about UK. I have therefore sent him one from Sheffield.

I wrote a ‘jokey’ letter to Noel and published it. But since then, I have decided to post it to him! I do not know his address, so I have just put London on it. Let’s see how Royal Mail get on and whether I get a reply! I’m hoping to get an autograph at least!

Noel Gallagher; do you need accommodation for Tramlines festival?

Noel Gallagher; do you need accommodation for Tramlines festival?

Hi Noel,

I see you are playing at Hillsborough Park, Sheffield in July as part of the Tramlines festival. I would like to offer you a penthouse suite conveniently located 10minutes walk, from Hillsborough Park. It is also 10minutes from a tram stop allowing easy access to the city centre music venues.

This is the first year that, the main stage has been in Hillsborough park. The Stereophonics are headlining on the Friday night. Pubs in the city centre have free gigs throughout the weekend. There is a folk part of the festival in Endcliffe Park for which you need an additional wrist band for (at a cost for the public, but I’m sure you would get one for free). I would also recommend the Jam night at the Castle in Hillsborough on the Sunday night. Therefore, please feel free to avail yourself of the accomodation for the Friday to Sunday. Please confirm when you can or whenever or just turn up anytime time of day or night and I will free the room for you.

Love

Sara

Do you think I have persuaded him? I have basically said love you and come round anytime! By penthouse I mean my attic bedroom, which is not really a suite because no ensuite just shared bathroom.
