All I know about love.

The Hornbeam tree

The Hornbeam Tree (spoiler free review)

Penguin modern 05: Three Japanese short stories. All three stories did not have a dramatic climax. It was the middle of the stories in the book that engaged me Closet LLB by Uno Koju translates by Jay Rubin. It was about a lazy man’s law student days (although he actually wanted to study literature) and early post graduate times.

Carries War by Nina Bowden. Like that set during war but not much about the war. The war just provides background in that Carrie is evacuated as a child during war, but other than that war is not of relevance to her. The book has her coming back to where she was evacuated as an adult.

No brand new clothes

Oxfam had a campaign to not buy brand new clothes in Sept. I did not buy any new clothes for myself in September. I did buy Lucy Locket leggings as Christmas presents for Mum, sister and niece. I got new to me clothes though from clothes swap at Union Street cafe in Sheffield. I had a good sort out and took whole suitcase. I brought back one long black top with sequins, animal print top, white and blue dress and a pale grey dress with polka dots that was handmade. The next of these swaps is 30th November.

Common Threads Clothing Exhange

The idea is you bring clothes in that do not want and take home clothes you do want.

I decided to take in a dress from when I was bridesmaid to my sister. I don’t like the colour. I paid to get it dry cleaned after the wedding 10years ago. Then wore it again for my work Christmas party in 2008. I think that is it. It probably does not fit now. Unfortunately not clean as should have been, but took it anyway and hopefully that can be sorted and it is a posh frock.

You pay £4 to go in. I also took a pencil skirt, had for years but, not worn for years as the slit at the back split. I tried to sew it up, but did not get it right and then at the back, it stuck out strangely. There was a repairs table the lady unpicked then put in some loose big stitches to show me where to stitch. I will have a go! I would have paid £5 to get it fixed as marks and Spencer skirt so not cheap.

As well as mending advice, considering only took in one item, came away with a bag full of clothes.

A couple of winter work skirts. Need to try and lose weight to wear them before winter, othwerwise got to donate them back.

A top predominately my team’s colours; claret and blue. With bonus of a splash of yellow.

A boob tube with sunflowers. Difficult one to wear a bra with as strapless and cut out detail at the back.

A simple t-shirt, with just a little embellishment on shoulders.

A light weight denim blouse.

Finally a paraolympic t-shirt; thought could maybe wear for World Cup.

5 wardrobe essentials

Assuming that also have underwear, tights and socks. These would be my essentials. Hard to narrow down as I like wearing a range of clothes.

1. Jeans 👖

2. Long sleeved thin top<
ith jeans, I would choose thin long sleeved top. I would be, so bored though if only had one top or one colour of top.

3. Dress 👗  Dresses are great for more formal occasions and occasions when want to feel well dressing.

4. Flat Ankle boots 👢  As these can be worn with jeans or dresses. Flat for comfort.

5. Earrings  Ideally would not always wear ankle boots with a dress; but if had to limit  to 5 items would choose jewellery over having choice of two shoes. Would be great to have choice of all jewellery  if limited to 5 items but if had to narrow it down; think it would be earrings.

Of course if I lived somewhere hot it would be easier. Does a bikini count as 1 or 2 items? Let’s say it is 1….Then sandals. A skirt, vest top and a dress.

What are your 5 essentials?

Surprise package from Lucy Locket in Sheffield.

Lucy recently offered free headbands with the design randomly selected from the range, for just postage cost.

It arrived in a pretty flowery package.

Inside was a another pretty bag, which is a gift in itself for storing jewellery in or as package for a gift.

This is the headband inside.

I have previously bought for my self, a friend and my sister a top from Lucy Locket in Sheffield; with the slogan Gym and Tonic. Also for myself one with the slogan Running on prosecco. Lucy also sells cool leggings.

Although Lucy is based in Sheffield the clothes / accessories are available online.

Yellow Primark dress.

Yellow Primark belt.

Yellow my Mum bought about 11 years ago in Peterborough as Easter present. Worn on many nights out.

Yellow vest tops from Primark.

Yellow t-shirts. Darker yellow from Marks and Spencer’s. Pale yellow from Primark.

Yellow top from Primark. Had years before cold shoulder trend, this year. Not worn much this year. The shoulder straps are in awkward place, for hiding bra straps,

Yellow hoodie from republic, which is now closed,

Just bought this jacket, last week in Primark, for £20.

Yellow cardigan £5.99 from under £5.99 shop.

Haul from £5.99 and under store: 2 pairs black leggings, 1 jeggings, 2 cardigans and 1 tunic dress. TOTAL ….

£27.98

Looks like dress. No changing rooms in shop. When bought found it is not possible to wrap it round me with out an indecently placed slit. So it is a cardigan instead.
Again too short to be worn as dress …needs leggings underneath.
